Newport News, VA (September 18, 2015) – For the second straight week, a Christopher Newport University women’s soccer player was named the Capital Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week, as junior defender Sam Rabinek. Rabinek helped lead the Captains (4-0-1) to a pair of shutout victories this week in the 2015 Captains Classic, earning her third career Defensive Player of the Week nod.
This week, CNU captured a 3-0 win over Houghton College and a 1-0 victory over Methodist, allowing just four shots on-goal between the two games. The Highlanders managed just six total shots, while Methodist picked up just seven total attempts.
The junior defensive leader played all but eight minutes in the two games this week and added three shots, including one on-goal. This season, she has helped the Captains defense allow just one goal in five games for a 0.19 goals against average, picking up four shutouts.
Rabinek captured the same award on September 16 of her freshman year, and again on September 29 last season. She has now started 42 straight games in the CNU defense. Junior goalkeeper Haley Casanova earned the first honor of 2015 last week.
