Ashburn, Va. (September 26, 2014) – When accounting for some of the best golfers in the area, one should definitely not overlook Briar Woods’ Joey Corlett.
Corlett, a senior, has had a very successful year playing not only for Briar Woods, but for several other tournaments, including the College Prep golf tour.
“I’ve been golfing ever since I could walk, but I started taking it seriously at about age 13,” said Corlett, “Most of my family golfed and they introduced me to the sport by taking me to little golf camps.”
On the tour, Corlett traveled to compete in many tournaments, and won first place at Williamsburg National-Yorktown Couse/Golden Horseshoe Gold and Bull Run GC Haymarket, and second place at the JMU tournament.
Corlett set the record for the lowest score shooting 7 under par in one of the tournaments.
At JMU, he shot 2 under par the second day to force a playoff, enabling him to win in a five hole playoff for second.
“I feel good about how the hard work I’ve put into golf has paid off and turned into success. Working for something and seeing it happen is the best feeling,” said Corlett.
He is ranked number one in the College Prep Boys division with an overall scoring average of 77.1.
Interested in continuing his golfing career after high school, Corlett has been offered a spot to be Christopher Newport University’s top recruit for the class of 2015.
He is hoping to make a decision after then end of his high school season.
