(November 24, 2013) – Briar Woods High School senior Blake Engelhart has committed to play baseball for Lynchburg College starting in the 2014-2015 school year. Engelhart says he chose Lynchburg because of the academic choices the local college offers.
“It’s a good school size for me and a top-10 business school. I would like to major in business.”
The 6-foot-1 pitcher says his role model is Albert Pujols because of both his work ethic and contributions to society through different charitable organizations. Unlike Pujols, Engelhart will not play first base for the NCAA Division III Fighting Hornets, rather he’ll play both pitcher and outfield.
In 2013, the Fighting Hornets finished 18-18 and 8-11-1 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.
Last season, the Falcons finished 11-9 before dropping their final game of the season to Loudoun Valley High School in the Dulles District quarterfinals. Engelhart has set some high goals for himself and teammates for 2014.
“I expect myself to be All-District first or second team outfield and expect our team to go to regionals.”
