(Oct. 7, 2013) – Briar Woods High School boys basketball coach Mike Benson confirmed that former Falcon standout point guard Myles Tate has been asked to join the NCAA Division I George Mason University men’s basketball team as a walk on.
The 5-foot-8 Tate played last year for NCAA Division II Mars Hill College in North Carolina where he played in 25 games with seven starts, averaging 14.9 minutes per contest. He average five points a game on 43 of 116 from the field including 12 of 51 from 3-point range and 27 of 36 from the free throw line.
“I am happy for him that he is at the level that we have been working for,” said Benson. “He worked hard over the summer and fall and we tried to prepare him for the D1 workouts.”
Tate averaged 22 points and 7 assists per game his senior season for Briar Woods where he was a 3-time first team all-Dulles District selection and 2-time All-Region II pick.
“He still have a long way to go to see the floor and he may have to sit out this year for transferring but it is one step closer to his goal,” said Benson.
