Ashburn, VA (October 20, 2016) – From the Wake Forest Athletic Communications, Briar Woods alumni and Wake Forest tight end Cam Serigne received a pair of honors last week. Serigne was named the John Mackey Tight End of the Week and also was recognized on the John Mackey Award Midseason Watch List.
Serigne, a 6-3, 250-pound redshirt junior from Ashburn, Va. (Briar Woods HS) caught four passes for a game-high 68 yards in Wake Forest’s 28-9 win over Syracuse on Oct. 9. Serigne had a critical 28-yard reception to start a Deacon scoring drive that put Wake Forest ahead 21-9 with just under four minutes to play in the game.
Serigne is one of 30 FBS tight ends on the midseason watch list. He is second on the team with 15 receptions for 199 yards in 2016. Serigne was on the preseason watch list as well.
John Mackey is recognized as one of the top tight ends to play football. A member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Mackey is recognized as a role model both on and off the field as demonstrated by being a Super Bowl champion and by his commitment to community service. Hunter Henry, now with the San Diego Chargers, was the 2015 Mackey Award recipient.
The award will be presented to the nation’s top collegiate tight end at The Home Depot College Football Red Carpet Awards on December 8. The semi-finalists will be announced on Nov. 14 and the finalists on Nov. 22.
