Eleanor Winants, 13, from Bluemont, Virginia has been selected to participate in the 2013 AAU Junior Olympic Field Hockey Games to be held the last week of July in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Winants was one of 128 girls selected to participate in the Junior Olympic Games because of her performance at the USA Field Hockey National Futures Championship in Virginia Beach.
The National Futures Championship is the premier championship event for USA Field Hockey’s Futures Program. The top 12 percent of athletes from across the country are chosen to participate in the National Futures Championship to showcase their talent. It is a highly attended event by college recruiters and USA Field Hockey high performance staff. A select group of athletes are chosen by an audience of selectors at the National Tournament to participate in the Junior Olympic field Hockey games.
Winants is a rising eighth grader at Wakefield School in The Plains, Virginia. She plays on their field hockey, basketball and lacrosse teams. She also plays for the Capitol Pegasus field hockey club.
