BlackBench Fit’s “Summer Strong” Open House is happening this Saturday, June 14, from 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at 21720 Red Rum Drive, Ashburn, VA #167. This open house is free and open to all ages and fitness stages!
Do you and/or your youth athlete have a nagging injury, joint issue or muscular imbalance? Are you concerned about the wear and tear on you or your athlete’s body? Have you been looking for advice on injury prevention?
BlackBench Fit is excited to welcome several leading area health professionals to our club on Saturday, June 14, to address the issue of overuse and or sports-related injuries among both youth athletes and adults. These health community leaders will talk through their areas of expertise and answer questions you or your player may have about injuries, prevention and rehab.
Summer Strong Open House Schedule:
9 a.m. & 10:30 a.m.
Drs. Dave & Tim Johnson, co-founders of the National Sports Medicine Institute, will talk about the most common injuries they see among youth athletes, why these injuries occur and how to help prevent them. They’ll also cover the hot topic of ACL injuries in youth athletes, particular epidemic among female soccer players. Dr. Tim Johnson a graduate of the Yale University School of Medicine and an Assistant Professor of Sports Medicine, Shoulder and Elbow Surgery at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. He is currently a team physician for Major League Baseball’s Baltimore Orioles and has worked with the team since 2003. Dr. David Johnson is graduate of the University of Virginia School of Medicine and has treated elite level athletes including care for the New York Mets and the New York Giants. He has been a consultant for the Washington Nationals and has been a team physician for the minor league Potomac Nationals.
9:30 a.m. & 11:00 a.m.
Dr. Alex McMinn, founder of Potomac Family & Sports Chiropractic Center, will talk about his work as a sports chiropractor, the mechanics of injury/prevention and the importance of training in coordination with rehabilitative work and specifically how it relates to the back. Dr. McMinn received his Doctorate Degree of Chiropractic from Life Chiropractic College in Atlanta, has a B.S. in sports medicine and has been a certified personal trainer since 1985. Dr. McMinn served as the Official Team Chiropractor for the Washington Redskins for two seasons and currently treats several NFL players.
10:00 a.m. & 11:30 a.m.
Dr. Robyn O’Connor, owner of Integrated Sports Medicine & Physical Therapy, will talk about shoulder pain, including the most common causes of shoulder injuries, differences between overuse and a serious shoulder injury, corrective exercises and what kind of pain requires a doctor’s visit. Dr. O’Connor has been a physical therapist for 11 years and holds a Doctorate of Physical Therapy in 2010 from Virginia Commonwealth University. She is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and a board certified Orthopedic Certified Specialist.

- Adult Small Group THRIVE Training (60-minute workouts) at 8:30, 9, 9:30, 10, 10:30, 11 & 11:30 a.m.
- Athletic Academy (60-minute workouts for middle school, high school and college athletes) at 9:15, 9:45, 10:15, 10:45, 11:15 a.m.
- Mini fitness camp, 9-11 a.m., ages 7-10. Kids are welcome to drop in anytime between 9-11 a.m. Let them get their sweat on while you work out!
- Fitness challenges held throughout the morning, with prizes for the winners.
- Functional movement screenings, body fat composition and measurements.
- Food samples from Power Supply and Great Harvest .
- Drawings held throughout the morning for athletic gear, BBF memberships and more!
