Cheers Sports has agreed to give the winning school student fan section one-of-a-kind special t-shirts to celebrate their status as Best Student Cheering Section in Loudoun!
(Oct. 31, 2013) – If you’re a fan of high school sports, Loudoun County is a pretty sweet area to be. With 13 schools fielding nearly 20 athletic teams each in more than 15 different sports, there sure is a lot to get excited about and cheer for.
Perhaps there’s no better example of the fervor with which local fans approach the high school sports scene than that displayed by the students at our county schools. Maybe it’s an offshoot of the crazy world of social media, or maybe it’s a uniquely Loudoun County thing, but every single public high school boasts an official student cheering organization.
On most Friday nights through September and October, these boisterous groups can be found packing the student sections of local football stands, often times sporting full spirit regalia and signage that would make the College Gameday crew on ESPN jealous.
One great recent example of student spirit was at the “Battle for a Better Cause” game between Briar Woods and Broad Run. There, students from both schools joined forces to create a stadium wide white out to raise funds and show support for the iPromise15 organization, dedicated to raising money and awareness for childhood cancer research in the memory of Gavin Rupp.
But the question remains: which student section is the best?
At a minimum, all of the schools deserve points for artistic merit for the nicknames of their cheering crews. For those scoring at home, those names are: Briar Woods’ Falcon Frenzy, Broad Run’s Maroon Crew, Dominion’s The D-Block, Freedom’s Hype Squad, Heritage’s Chaos Crew, Champe’s Chaos, Loudoun County’s Raider Riot, Loudoun Valley’s The Jungle, Park View’s Pat-Riot, Potomac Falls’ Panther Pit, Stone Bridge’s Dog Pound, Tuscarora’s Tusky Terror, and Woodgrove’s The Wild.
We recently ventured into the Twitter-sphere to see if we could come to some consensus regarding who has the best student fans. As you can imagine, some schools and student sections were quite vociferous in their views. The kids in The Jungle at Loudoun Valley pulled no punches, proclaiming:
@LVHS_Jungle 28 Oct We are the best cheering section in LoCo. Sticking with our teams no matter what. #WeAreFamily #OneSchool #WelcomeToTheJungle
@BRmaroonCrew14 28 Oct @farrellfootball Is that even a question?? BROAD RUN SPARTANS definitely have the best school spirit! No doubt!
Clearly this debate cannot be settled in the Twitter-verse, so Vivaloudoun is calling on you, our loyal readers and fans of area high school sports, to decide.
You think the Tusky Terror trumps those Frenzied Falcons at Briar Woods? Prefer the Panther Pit to The Jungle? Well here’s your chance to cheer for your favorite… cheering section (In the distance, Austin Powers is saying “Allow myself to introduce… myself.”).
The Fox has harnessed the power of the Viva Loudoun media machine to create a survey for you, the fans of fans, to decide once and for all which school’s student cheering section is the area’s best. Vote early (and often?), and if a vote isn’t enough to make your point, leave a comment or hit us on Twitter @Vivaloudoun and @farrellfootball.
Next week we’ll post the results, with the winning school walking away with the ultimate prize… supreme bragging rights.
