Ashburn, VA (October 11, 2016) – The annual football game between Broad Run and Stone Bridge high schools has always been about the rivalry between the two schools, but the stakes have been raised for this year’s game to support a good cause.
The annual “Battle of the Burn” will take place at 7 p.m. on Friday, October 14th, at Broad Run High School. During the week of October 11th through 14th, the two schools will be conducting a series of events to raise funds for the Fort Belvoir Fisher House.
The Fisher House Foundation operates 71 houses on 24 military installations and 24 Veterans Administration (VA) medical centers. These houses provide lodging to the families of members of the Armed Forces or veterans who are undergoing treatment at one of these facilities.
Students in the DECA chapters at the two schools came together September 28th to kick off the challenge. (DECA is an association of marketing students.) They provided an Italian dinner to families staying at the Fort Belvoir Fisher House and took a tour of the house. The Broad Run gourmet foods classes also prepared amazing desserts for the marketing students to take to The Fisher House.
The students returned to their schools to begin events, such as the sale of T-shirts or spirit links, to raise money for Fisher House. You can support their efforts by contributing online at http://fundraise.fisherhouse.org/proudsupporterevents/Fundraising/individual/3761878
Be sure to indicate which school you wish to support with your donation. The winning school will be announced at the Battle of Burn football game.
