Ashburn, Va. (January 19, 2017) — We at Viva Loudoun Media Communications LLC are proud to get the ball rolling on our newest exclusive feature: The Viva Loudoun Hottest Hoops Of The Week!
Once per week during boys’ and girls’ basketball’s regular season – and as frequently as possible through the madness of the postseason – the Viva team will hit the hardwood to bring you the sights, stats, quotes, tweets and stories from one great Loudoun game between two great Loudoun teams. Wherever the hoops are hottest, that’s where we’ll be.
Our Hottest Hoops coverage tips off this Friday from Rock Ridge High School, when the surprising Phoenix play host to the almost-as-surprising Pride of Heritage High School.
In just the program’s third season, Rock Ridge is rollin’ with a 10-4 mark, splitting six contests in Conference 21-B (or 21-East, for you geography sticklers) to place third in that ultra-tough league. They’ve done it with dead-eye three-point shooting by Blake Blalock and all-around scoring from Zach Howard. The Phoenix opened this campaign with six straight victories before tapering off recently, alternating Ws and Ls.
The Rock’s three in-conference wins match Heritage’s three, though the Pride have that many in just four games. Overall the Leesburgers are 13-3 and in second place, just ahead of the Phoenix and trailing (like everybody else) those unbeaten Loudoun Valley Vikings. The Pride are loaded with seniority, as eight guys – like mainstays Josh Gray, Darick Edmond and Garrett Ganley – are in their last high school year. Of Heritage’s three setbacks this season, one was by seven, another by six.
These two hoops squads met just last week inside Heritage’s gym, with the Pride coming away 42-36 to the good. Now we rematch, shifting over to one of Ashburn’s newest high school to see who emerges there.
It’s the Pride versus the Phoenix, and we’re clappin’ our hands and slappin’ the floor in anticipation of the fun to come. Run the floor with us in Viva Loudoun’s Hottest Hoops Of The Week! Follow along as we live-tweet @VivaLoudoun.
