Purcellville, VA (August 7, 2016) – Entering day 4 of the American Legion Mid-Atlantic Tournament at Fireman’s Field, host team, the Virginia Post 34 Leesburg Rangers, began the day as the sole undefeated team in the field. Quite a feat being that every other team in the tournament had won a championship of sorts to prove their mettle.
A win against their August 6th, Saturday afternoon opponent, the Virginia Post 325 Danville team, would greatly improve their chances of winning the tournament, and better yet, punch their ticket to the American Legion World Series.
After tying up the game in the first inning – just before a 3o-minute rain delay, and then taking a lead early in the game, the Rangers found themselves down by 5 in the bottom of the 9th. In an unlikely turn of events, the host team rallied to tie the game and propel it to extra innings, only to fall short in the 10th to Danville by the score 11-9.
Despite the loss, if the Rangers win today’s 4:00pm match-up, they will advance to the American Legion World Series taking place in Shelby, NC, August 11-16.
