(May 25, 2013) – J.B. Bukauskas left no doubt as to why he was named this week as the AAA Northern Region Pitcher of the Year as a sophomore as the Bulldog threw a 2-hitter Friday night to lead Stone Bridge High School to a 1-0 win at Yorktown in the first round of the Northern Region tournament. Senior Matt Hough had the game’s lone RBI.
Stone Bridge faces Oakton at 1 p.m. Monday at Lake Braddock High School in the regional quarterfinals.
The Bulldogs out-hit the Patriots 7-2 in the win, led by Hough and sophomore Tanner Karafa each with two hits and junior Kyle Palmer, freshman Dave Mocabee, and senior Luke Fitzgerald each with singles.
The Bulldogs scored their lone run against senior John Yoest (William and Mary signee) in the 5th inning when Karafa singled and pinch runner Michael Kuzbel stole 2nd base and was driven home by one of Hough’s singles.
Bukauskas pitched well tonight allowing only 2 hits and recording nine Ks. He worked himself out of a couple tough spots, due largely to walks (5 total, one intentional), with some solid defense (very nice 6-4-3 DP) and a couple of important strikeouts. Bukauskas, not even half way through his high school career, holds the Bulldogs all-time strikeout total with 186 and he now has the single season record with 110 in 2013. Owen Gotimer just completed his freshman year at Syracuse University and is a graduate of Heritage High School in Leesburg
