(Aug. 17, 2013) – The 2013 Babe Ruth 13-15 World Series opens today in Purcellville at Fireman’s Field with four games highlighted by host Loudoun County facing the Southeast region champions at 8 p.m.
“Our goal from day one with this team has been to win a World Series,” said Loudoun County manager Tim Owen. “Loudoun County has been very successful in Babe Ruth over the years, but this is the one goal we haven’t achieved yet.”
The Loudoun County team is comprised of players from Loudoun Valley, Woodgrove, Heritage, Loudoun County, Paul VI and Thomas Jefferson.
“We have a well-rounded team and can’t win if they don’t all play well,” said Owen. “We typically are very strong on defense. With that being said, these tournaments always come down to pitching.”
Loudoun County has three strong left-handed starters: Austin Rader, Hank Biggs and Christian McDowell and a strong right-handed closer in Kaleb Bowman. More relief on the mound will be provided by Griffin Buscavage and Ryan Hanvey.
“We are hoping for big crowds to cheer our boys on,” said Owen.
