Daytona Beach, FL (May 13, 2015) – Apex gymnast Chase Clingman, age 13, was crowned Level 9 National Champion in Daytona Beach, Florida at the 2015 Junior Olympic National Championships. He was accompanied by his coach, Vladimir Shamenko, a bronze medalist in the 1996 Summer Olympics.
More than 700 of the USA’s top Level 8, 9, and 10 gymnasts competed over the course of 5 days. On the first day of competition Chase started strong, finishing first place All-Around and 1st place on high-bar. These results qualified him to compete in the event finals where scores were added from both days to determine the overall winners.
At the event finals, Chase started off steady for the first 4 events, but catapulted into 2nd place after nailing his floor routine and earning a “personal best” score. Ending the meet on pommel horse, he executed a clean routine, moving him into 1st place and finishing a mere .025 ahead of his competition. In the Junior Olympic 13 year old category, Chase Clingman placed 2nd on high bar and 1st All Around in the nation.
