Leesburg, Va. (August 5, 2014) – America’s 9/11 Ride will be traveling through Leesburg on Friday, August 15, 2014. This motorcycle ride features riders from across the United States who travel a two-day course in honor of the lives lost on September 11, 2001. The motorcycle procession will travel south on Route 15 into Leesburg, continuing southbound on King Street where riders will enter the Dulles Greenway and travel to Washington D.C.
Riders are expected to arrive in Leesburg at approximately 1:45 p.m.; however, this time is dependent on weather, construction, and other traffic conditions. During the procession, King Street will be closed to traffic. In addition, King Street intersections will be closed to east-west cross traffic, both vehicular and pedestrian, until the procession has passed. Road closures are anticipated to be in effect for approximately 30 minutes.
Spectators who wish to watch and cheer as the ride passes through the downtown are encouraged to arrive in downtown Leesburg not later than 1:30 p.m. Parking will be available in the Town Hall Parking Garage, at the Liberty Street Parking Lot (Liberty & Royal Streets) and at the Pennington Parking Lot (Church & North Streets).
For safety reasons, spectators will not be allowed to hand any items (bottled water, flags, flowers, etc.) to the motorcycle riders. In addition, until the procession has passed by, spectators will not be able to cross King Street on foot.
