Ashburn, Va (June 25, 2017) – Learn about the 8 most effective ways to prepare for High School (or College) Cheerleading!
Take the guess work out of preparing for school cheer! If you don’t already know, in Northern Virginia, school cheer is tough. So tough that it is common for someone to NOT make the team unless they have trained for years before. Especially if that VARSITY letter is what you are looking for! Fortunately, All Star Legacy has been preparing the most competitive school cheerleaders for over a decade. Check this list of things that you could be doing to make sure you don’t miss the cut when your squad is announced!
#8 – Eat Healthy
Some small simple steps can make a big difference! Water instead of soda, mustard instead of mayo, skip dessert, grilled instead of fried, add more fruits, veggies and whole foods and get rid of french fries, onion rings and fast food! After a week you will be feeling better than ever with the fuel you need to take on your biggest challenges!
#7 – Stretch Everyday
If you think only flyers need to stretch you are DEAD WRONG. Flexibility is key for all tumbling, jumps stunting (even for bases). Keeping full range of motion in your back, shoulders, ankles, hips, legs etc are key for almost everything you do in cheerleading? Does your coach ever tell you to keep your legs strait or point your toes? It may be flexibility that is holding you back!
All Star Legacy has regular stretching classes and semi-private lessons
#6 – Brush Up In Classes
BRAND NEW TO CHEER?
If you don’t know what a “high v” is? Don’t know what type of approaches are common for your front hurdler?, you had better get a jump start! Simply knowing cheer terminology alone is a significant step in the right direction.
#5 – Specialty & Tryout Clinics
There are a lot of specialty clinics that will introduce you to the TRYOUT process specifically. Nervous about tryouts? Go get a mock tryout along with instruction from High School coaches in our HIGH SCHOOL PREP CLINIC.
#4 – Attend Open Gyms
The more you train your drills and skills the better you can perfect them. A great coach once told me that there is a direct correlation with simply the TIME a kid spends in the gym and how much they advance! We couldn’t agree more! Especially if you develop a habit of going!
We host 2 open gyms a week–
OPEN GYM SCHEDULE
Friday 5:30-8pm (All Age Open Gym)
Saturday 2-4pm (Upcoming 9th grade+ ONLY)
#3 – Private Lessons
The best thing about Private Lessons is that they generally can help you with anything. If you identify that you need major help with your JUMPS, then you can get that help! If you have a problem with head placement in back handsprings, this is a great way to fix that issue!
Don’t think one lesson will turn you from ZERO to HERO, but it will certainly help you along in the right direction, especially if you can take the feedback and use it to improve!
#2 – TUMBLE TUMBLE TUMBLE TUMBLE
You need a lot of skills to make the team, however, many of them can be taught rather quickly. Tumbling is a MARATHON of learning rather than a SPRINT.
Tumbling is the #1 reason why someone may not make a cheer team (at any level). If you aren’t tumbling regularly, chances are that you may have the deck stacked against you! And often times, one hour a week is just not enough to keep up with others!
If you are able to join TUMBLE CLUB, it is a great inexpensive way to get annual access to frequent tumbling with high level instructors!
#1 – Join an All Star Team
We get 50-100 people calling us a month between March and September asking us what their athlete needs to prepare for HIGH SCHOOL CHEER. However, NONE of those questions come from athletes on our All Star teams! The simple fact of the matter is that All Star athletes generally eclipse all other athletes and are clearly favored for all high school teams. Their time and dedication spent learning tumbling, stunting, motions, performance, jumps etc shows very easily over others trying out who may not have spent the time training. Fortunately, you can get started no matter what your age or ability level!
