Chicago, IL (May 1, 2015 10:35PM) – Alex Carter, Stanford Cardinal Cornerback under Head Coach David Shaw and former Briar Woods High School standout under Head Coach Charlie Pierce, was recently selected in the 3rd Round of the 2015 NFL Draft, 80th overall pick, by the Detroit Lions. Alex, an NFL cornerback now, is a chip off the old block! He is in the NFL in the same position as is father, Tom, who played for three NFL teams, Cincinnati Bengals, Chicago Bears, and Washington Redskins.
Carter has the mental fortitude, athletic prowess, and determination to be a great NFL player. At the end of the day, Carter is a physical cornerback, who at his best is able to see plays develop in front of him. His ability to tackle and play off the ball is best in zone defenses. Carter attended Briar Woods High School in Ashburn, Va., where he recorded over 1,000 all-purpose yards. He was also named the Virginia Gatorade Player of the Year in 2011, and in 2012 was selected to play in the U.S. Army All American Bowl.
Carter graduated in 2012 and headed to Stanford University (Calif.), where he continued to put up impressive numbers on the field.
Loudoun County is proud to see this Ashburn alumni continue to make great strides in seeing his athletic career dreams come true.
