Loudoun County, Va. (April 5, 2015) – Students from various grade levels are invited to participate in hands-on, robotics camps that focus on science technology engineering and mathematics (STEM) concepts. SySTEMic Solutions is a Northern Virginia Community College program designed to engage K-12 students and faculty in STEM education and career opportunities.
During the one- and two-week camps, campers will learn scientific principles, how to build robots, how to write computer programs and the engineering design process. The competitive aspect of robotics encourages students to work in teams (campers participating in EV3 robotics and VEX robotics during the summer often form their own teams during the school year.) In addition to STEM education, campers learn to manage their time more efficiently and negotiate on designs and project modifications.
The one-week sessions cost $285. The two-week sessions cost $450. Campers will need to bring a lunch Monday through Thursday; pizza will be provided on Fridays. The camp sessions run during the weeks of July 6 thru July 31. Please refer to http://www.nvcc.edu/systemic/camps.html for more details.

EV3 Robotics Camp
This one-week camp is for rising third- through fifth-graders. Students (in groups of three) will build an autonomous EV3 Lego Mindstorms robot to carry out pre-designed missions.
VEX IQ Advanced Camp
This two-week camp is for rising fourth- through eighth-graders. Students (in groups of three) will build a VEX IQ autonomous and remote-controlled robot to carry out pre-designed missions using advanced building and programming techniques.
VEX 1 Robotics Camp
The VEX 1 camp is one week and introduces rising sixth- through 12th-grade students to competitive robotics through the VEX robotics design system. This camp is perfect for students that have never done robotics and want to learn the basics of the VEX robotics platform.
VEX 1.5 Robotics Camp
In this camp, rising seventh- through 12th-grade students will work in groups of four to build and program a robot for the VEX Robotics Competition. This two-week camp is ideal for students who have experience using the VEX Robotics System through a previous summer camp or through a competitive team during the school year.
VEX 2 Robotics Camp
In this two-week camp rising eighth- through 12th-grade students will work in groups of four to build and program a robot for the VEX Robotics Competition. This camp is ideal for students who have one to two years’ experience using the VEX Robotics System on a competitive team. Students will need a recommendation from the team coach.
